Lyrics

In Song

Just some lyrical tributes to Jenni. And 15 years.

Our first dance as a married couple was to this song. I’ll be the first to admit that I was never a big Eric Clapton fan. But I’ve had this song in my collection now for a long time, just because of what it means to me. Eric Clapton’s Wonderful Tonight.

I feel wonderful
Because I see the love light in your eyes
And the wonder of it all
Is that you just don’t realize
How much I love you

As funny as this next song is, and maybe it’s not really a love song, depending on your point of view, but there is still some love and charm in there. This became “our song” because it was on the radio almost constantly when we started dating. It’s light, poppy, and kinda silly, as you can see here. From The Cure’s Friday, I’m In Love:

Dressed up to the eyes
It’s a wonderful surprise
To see your shoes and your spirits rise
Throwing out your frown
And just smiling at the sound
And as sleek as a shriek
Spinning round and round
Always take a big bite
It’s such a gorgeous sight
To see you eat in the middle of the night
You can never get enough
Enough of this stuff
It’s Friday
I’m in love

Don’t know if any of you have seen the movie Shrek, but there’s a good song in there that is a sentimental love song. But since it’s in an animated movie, I think some of it’s sentimentality is missed. Hallelujah by Rufus Wainwright.

Your faith was strong but you needed proof, you saw her bathing on the roof, her beauty in the moonlight overthrew you

This is a song that ALWAYS makes me think of Jenni. It is a love song, really. Listen deeply to it, read the lyrics below, and you’ll see it. You could lose everything and still be okay, just because of that special love. Mad About You by Sting.

A stone’s throw from Jerusalem
I walked a lonely mile in the moonlight
And though a million stars were shining
My heart was lost on a distant planet
That whirls around the April moon
Whirling in an arc of sadness
I’m lost without you, I’m lost without you
Though all my kingdoms turn to sand and fall into the sea
I’m mad about you, I’m mad about you
And from the dark secluded valleys
I heard the ancient songs of sadness
But every step I thought of you
Every footstep only you
Every star a grain of sand
The leavings of a dried up ocean
Tell me, how much longer,
How much longer?

They say a city in the desert lies
The vanity of an ancient king
But the city lies in broken pieces
Where the wind howls and the vultures sing
These are the works of man
This is the sum of our ambition
It would make a prison of my life
If you became another’s wife
With every prison blown to dust
My enemies walk free
I’m mad about you, I’m mad about you

And I have never in my life
Felt more alone than I do now
Although I claim dominions over all I see
It means nothing to me
There are no victories In all our histories
Without love

A stone’s throw from Jerusalem
I walked a lonely mile in the moonlight
And though a million stars were shining
My heart was lost on a distant planet
That whirls around the April moon
Whirling in an arc of sadness
I’m lost without you, I’m lost without you

And though you hold the keys to ruin of everything I see
With every prison blown to dust my enemies walk free
Though all my kingdoms turn to sand and fall into the sea
I’m mad about you, I’m mad about you

More tomorrow. We’re almost there! 15 years!

See you tomorrow.

A surprise of really big feet

As has been mentioned, Jenni’s a big fan of the new Doctor Who series. Ok, the new ones that the Beeb have had on now for 4+ seasons. I mean, really big fan. Would abandon me to live in the TARDIS. Would probably view time travel as cool simply because she could do it, if she were in the TARDIS. That sort of thing.

So, in one of the few slow moments I had today (basically toward the end of my working lunch), I found this and immediately thought of her.

drwhoset

Well, foolish me. I IM’d her the link to the page. And now it’s her Mother’s Day present.

“What?” You say? “You’re showing her what she’s getting? Won’t that spoil the surprise.”

Yeah. Almost eighteen years later, and she still hates surprises. Best avoided. Hates surprises like slugs hate salt. Or Republicans hate terrorists. Or Michele Bachmann hates reason. Jenni hates surprises unless she doesn’t know it’s coming at all. For instance, her main Christmas gift this past year sat completely unnoticed and unmolested virtually in plain view on the bottom shelf of my desk. Right next to hers. In the Amazon box that it was shipped in. For almost a full month. Not…A…Clue.

That was one of the best surprises I’ve had. A gift she loved, and I didn’t need to worry about her finding it, because it was right there.

This one was different. She’s never begged for anything before. Or at least not in so many terms. And the thing is, I’m not really sure why.

So yes. Sometime soon, she’ll be getting the action figures with really big feet.

Surprise!

Changing topics…

A while back, I put a link in for the “Benny Hillizer,” a cute little website that adds the Benny Hill theme song to YouTube videos.

You remember it, you say? Perfect. Well, that was before I had videos up on YouTube…

So, go to the link above, and copy and paste in this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-uhGveixjM

Give it 20 seconds or so to really get funny. Patrick has now been “Benny Hill-ized.”

Bon Appetit.

See you tomorrow.
