Tomorrow’s Labor Day, which means that the day after that is the return to the normal schedule around here.
We’ve had our three months of Summer freedom, hot weather, shorter hours, transitions, and the like. Now it’s time to get back to things.
Like the blog, here. I didn’t mean to be away from it for two weeks, really, but it just happened. Too much other stuff going on, and not enough that I felt like talking about.
The kids are back to school on Tuesday, each in the last grade of their level.
Patrick’s a senior in high school this year, which has me thinking a lot about him and that time in a kid’s life. I loved my senior year. It was easy and challenging all at the same time. I was actually taking a strong lead in planning out the changes that were going to be coming my way in the next year, and I felt a lot of freedom and stress. But it was still one of the best years I’d ever had in school. I hope he has the same kind of year.
Meanwhile, Hannah and Zoe are entering 8th grade. And that’s another grade that’s full of change and excitement and stress. We’re trying to figure out the next steps for them: which high school options would best fit for each of them. And it’s entirely possible, that they’ll end up going to different schools for the first time in their life. As a parent of twins, this is scary and exciting at the same time because it means they’re really growing into being completely different people, and that’s amazing to me. But it also means they’re getting older–they’re no longer the little girls that will always be stuck in my head.
We’re all moving on here in one way or another. I’ll settle back in to writing here and some of my other projects and I’ll share updates and news about those here too. This week, I’ll update you all on things that we’ve been doing for the last couple of weeks. Stay tuned.
See you tomorrow.
